“Lekkere haring” by Enric Adell

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first edition of The New Yorker, I wanted to pay homage to its iconic cover featuring that dandy character, which has been referenced countless times over the years in a variety of styles. I wanted, of course, to give it a Rotterdam twist, and since our city is not a place for aristocrats, I thought a worker from the port would better represent the blue-collar, resilient personality of Rotterdam.

Enric Adell is a graphic designer and illustrator from Barcelona, established in Rotterdam since 2019. He combines his work as the Art Director of magazines Rouleur, Volata and Pickpocket with freelance illustration and design jobs.
