"Dansende leeuwen" by Matty Zhang

“The pulse of ‘dancing lions’ marks the Lunar New Year on Kruiskade. During this season, Rotterdam’s Chinatown offers a unique contrast where imposing modern buildings loom across the street from the nostalgic setting, and the vibrant lanterns complement the leafless winter trees.

The neighborhood is more than a map of Asian shops. It has been a vessel for memories of multiple immigrant cultures. Perhaps, there is a shared sentiment: a lion firmly rooted, guarding a heritage through generations, or a lion that pauses, noticing an ache at its feet and wondering where to settle for the decade to come. And the young newcomer, traveling and eagerly exploring the textures of Europe. Which lion do you resonate with?“
