"Sight for Sore Eyes" by Michael van Kekem

"The illustration Sight for Sore Eyes portrays the famous Rotterdam buildings The Lee Towers, which I always find very appealing whenever I drive to my studio in Spangen. I loved adding the elements of a car and water, one of those moments in time when the sun is setting and you’re driving around West."

Michael van Kekem (1985, Rotterdam NL) works as an illustrative designer and printmaker. His work spans illustration, graphic design, and printmaking. Michael works for a variety of clients while also creating personal pieces. His work has a playful and poetic aesthetic, whether it’s a logo, a booklet, an editorial illustration, or a print. He also gives workshops and courses in printmaking techniques such as screen printing, risograph, or linocut for all ages — in his studio, in graphic workshops, or on location. You can often find him at markets and fairs, selling his soul or exhibiting his more personal work. In 2025, he co-organized and curated the first Rotterdam Illustration Festival.
