De Rotterdammer #17
"Delfshaven 's nachts" (Delfshaven at night) by Gabriela Godlewski
"Until very recently, I lived in Rotterdam for two years in an apartment with a nice view of the Schie. During that period of my life, I would commute to and from work via the Delfshaven metro station. After six years in the Netherlands, I have only just gotten used to the dark winters, but the lights in Delfshaven always made it much better, especially after a long day at work. I no longer live in Delfshaven but I think back very fondly on the views of the boats in Delfshaven with their reflections dancing in the canal."
Gabriela Godlewski of G.God Art is a Delft-based gouache illustrator. In 2019, she moved to the Netherlands from New York City to pursue a master's in flood protection. In between her studies, she discovered gouache and immediately clicked with the medium. Since then, she has made many pieces featuring her own past memories, travels, and familiar sights in her new home. When not painting, she is a climate resilience consultant who measures risk of climate hazards in areas all over the world while also designing solutions to protect vulnerable populations and areas.
