De Rotterdammer #03

"Polaris" by Roderick van Hasselt

I felt the maritime community should also be represented in De Rotterdammer. ‘Polaris’ is the  Rotterdam pilot boat, located about 10 km from the harbour entrance. Her yawls collect pilots from outbound ships. The pilots can relax on board, have a meal and prepare for their next assignment. Pilot tenders collect pilots from the Polaris and bring them to inbound ships.

Roderick is a marine pilot and visual artist based in Rotterdam. He has been photographing since the age of 16 and started screen printing at Mesh Print Club in 2020. His inspiration is often maritime, but can be anything that fascinates him.
